In 1982, Jim Gander started a small water conditioning company which initially was named Gander Sales Company.  It’s primary business centered around the sales and service of residential water softeners.  Many things have changed since those early days.

Gander Sales Company soon became Superior Water Conditioning and a part of Superior Companies of Rochester, Inc.  The family of Superior Companies currently includes Superior Water Conditioning, Superior Plumbing and Heating, Superior Mechanical Systems and U.S. Mechanical Insulation.  Headquarters for Superior Companies remains in Rochester, Minnesota, with satellite facilities operating in Red Wing and Edina, Minnesota. 

Although residential water softeners remain a very important part of the product lineup at Superior Water Conditioning, many other water treatment products are available for both residential and commercial applications.

Along with manufacturing water softeners and iron conditioners for our own use, Superior Water Conditioning distributes its conditioners to over 30 wholesale accounts in Southeastern Minnesota.  These accounts include plumbers, hardware and appliance stores.

Superior Water Conditioning is a member of the Water Quality Association, Rochester Area Builders Association and has been awarded the status of Platinum Dealer from the Osmonics Corporation, which is one of Superior’s largest suppliers of components.
